Hank Mandsager: Leveraging AI as “Actionable Insights” for Dealerships

Unlocking the Value of Warranty in Equipment Sales | Jake Bryce
In this conversation, Hank Mandsager discusses the impact of AI on farm equipment dealerships and shares his background as an aerospace engineer turned data scientist. He emphasizes the importance of data quality and the challenges faced by dealerships in implementing big data. Hank highlights the three categories of challenges: technology, culture, and processes. He advises dealerships to evaluate their data, clean it, and determine if data will be their key differentiator before deciding whether to build in-house capabilities or work with third-party vendors.
Andy and Hank discuss the potential applications of AI and data science in the agriculture industry, specifically in the context of farm equipment dealerships and explore topics such as predictive maintenance, improving technician efficiency, and streamlining decision-making processes. They also emphasize the importance of understanding biases and uncertainties when working with data. Recommended books include “Thinking, Fast and Slow” by Daniel Kahneman, “The Signal and the Noise” by Nate Silver, and “Superforecasting” by Philip E. Tetlock and Dan Gardner.
Key Takeaways
- Data-driven decision-making can lead to increased efficiency and profitability in dealerships. Data quality is crucial for successful AI implementation
- Data quality is crucial for successful machine learning models and predictions. Dealerships should evaluate their data, ensure it is clean and representative of the future they want to predict.
- Dealerships should determine if data will be their key differentiator and decide whether to build in-house capabilities or work with third-party vendors based on their goals and resources.
- AI and data science can be used to improve processes in farm equipment dealerships, such as predictive maintenance and technician efficiency.
