Understanding unidirectional vs. bidirectional integrations

When it comes to system integrations, it’s important to understand the difference between unidirectional (one-way) and bidirectional (two-way) feeds. Here’s how each type of integration works and why both can be effective depending on your dealership’s needs:

Unidirectional integration:

This type of integration means that information from the business system is sent only one way to Anvil Pro. Anvil Pro cannot communicate or push information back to the business system. This can be beneficial for a few reasons:

  • Data validation: This one-way integration allows your dealership to identify and visualize data inconsistencies from the business system, enabling you to prioritize and correct inaccuracies before they affect your operations.
  • System of record: With a unidirectional integration, the business system remains the system of record, ensuring that critical data is only updated after it has been validated within Anvil Pro.
  • Workflow focus: Anvil Pro pulls sales teams out of the business system, focusing them on completing the sales cycle with only the business-critical information they need. This streamlines their workload and also minimizes the risk of propagating incorrect information back into your core business system.

Bidirectional integration:

This type of integration means that information flows both ways, from the business system to Anvil Pro and from Anvil Pro back to the business system. This can be beneficial for dealer teams that prioritize data integrity:

  • Real-time updates: Data flows both ways between Anvil Pro and your DMS, keeping both systems in sync in real time.
  • Streamlined processes: This integration can automate data updates, reducing manual entry and ensuring consistency across platforms. However, it’s crucial that teams are well-trained to avoid introducing inaccuracies back into the business system.

Which integration is right for you?

Choosing between unidirectional and bidirectional integration depends on the business system, your dealership’s operational needs, or your team’s comfort with the systems. Anvil Pro provides flexibility, supporting both integration types, and our team is here to help.
